Biography

Prof Hines

A leading international management educator. He is a regular contributor at leading international conferences and workshops. His research and professional interests make sense of organization strategies, structures and relationships focusing attention on management decisions. He is author of the highly acclaimed ‘Supply Chain Strategies’ published by Routledge, Fashion Marketing also published by Routledge and Co-Author of Strategic Marketing Planning and Strategic Marketing Planning and Control. He has published research papers in leading academic journals in his field such as the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management, International Journal of Information Management, Public Management Review, Non-Profit Voluntary Services Quarterly, Qualitative Marketing Research and the Journal of the Textile Institute. He was an editorial board member of Marketing Intelligence and Planning, Journal of Research in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Journal of the Textile Institute and served on the Editorial Board of Textile Horizons a practitioner journal in the 1990s and has for many years served on the Textile Institute Publication Committee. He was lead consultant on a number of international projects and has specific expertise in supply chain management. Prior to his academic career he worked in management systems and consultancy in different industrial sectors. He is Director of Supply Chain Strategy Research (SCSR).

Tony has a first degree in economics from the Victoria University of Manchester, a post graduate teaching qualification from the University of Lancaster, and a PhD, making sense of organizational strategy, structures and relationships. He has supervised and examined more than 60 PhD candidates. He is actively involved in professional management education in the UK and internationally, most recently in South Africa and Sri Lanka leading major change programmes funded by international agencies and professional bodies. He has also conducted assignments in the USA, Europe and South Korea. Prior to and alongside his academic career Tony worked in management consultancy across a number of different sectors including: public services, education, health care, chemicals, commodities, publishing, packaging, aerospace, retailing, entertainment, finance, textiles and apparel. For a number of years he held positions as Chair and President at branch level for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and served as an education advisor and senior examiner before focusing attention on professional practice, research, scholarship and writing projects. He is currently Chair of the North West Operational Research Society Group.He is a Board Member of the Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative (NARTI).
